Release definition

v2.0.0 freezes five-level benchmarks for barbell bench press, back squat, conventional deadlift, and standing overhead press. Each value is a one-repetition maximum divided by body mass, anchored to ages 20–39. Labels describe coaching bands; they are not percentiles, competitive qualifying totals, or health status.

Future empirical dataset method

  1. Pre-register the population, inclusion criteria, sampling frame, lift protocol, and analysis plan.
  2. Collect reported age and sex category, body mass, training age, equipment, range-of-motion rules, and verified or protocol-standardized 1RM results. Never infer these fields.
  3. Apply documented, reproducible plausibility and completeness rules; publish counts at each exclusion stage with a data dictionary.
  4. Report raw and normalized distributions by sex and age. Evaluate body-mass normalization with residual diagnostics; simple bodyweight multiples do not fully remove body-size effects.
  5. Publish sample sizes, quantiles, uncertainty intervals, collection dates, protocol variants, and coverage gaps. Suppress small cells and never publish individual data.

Statistical and expert review gate

A release may not be labelled normative or percentile-based until an independent biostatistician reviews sampling, missing data, normalization, uncertainty, and disclosure controls; and a strength-and-conditioning expert reviews lift definitions, equipment rules, and coaching interpretation. Reviews must be dated, role-identified, conflict-declared, and linked in release notes. Material protocol changes require a new major version.

Versioning and reproducibility

Major versions change definitions, source population, normalization, or thresholds. Minor versions add compatible metadata or correct documentation. Patches correct errors without changing values. Every CSV includes its identifier and version. Calculations use fixed age factors: 0.95 (<20), 1.00 (20–39), 0.97 (40–49), 0.92 (50–59), 0.85 (60–69), and 0.75 (70+).

This table is the accessible equivalent of the benchmark chart. Values are bodyweight multiples for ages 20–39; all are coaching benchmarks.

Limitations and source rationale

Technique, depth, pauses, straps, belts, equipment, disability, injury history, limb proportions, and training age can change a comparison. Do not use these bands to prescribe rehabilitation or readiness. v2 retains its values as labelled coaching benchmarks rather than recasting them as empirical norms.
